Linec, město, kterým jsem projížděla nespočetněkrát směrem na Salzburg, okolní jezera a hory, a nikdy jsme v něm nezastavili. A to ani na záchod. :) Miluji cestování a objevování a město mě vždy zajímalo, ale doposud nebyla ani chuť, ani pořádná příležitost se zastavit. To se změnilo asi v půlce listopadu.
Přítelova maminka pracuje v Rakousku a chodí do práce na směnný provoz. Proto si pronajímá ubytování v obci blízko Lince. Jelikož měla volný víkend, využili jsme toho a její ubytování se nám stalo na jednu noc domovem a příležitostí prozkoumat podzimní Linec. A co v něm vidět?
Linz is a city I’ve driven through countless times on my way to Salzburg, the nearby lakes, and the mountains, yet we never stopped there. Not even for a bathroom break. :) I love travelling and exploring, and the city always interested me, but until now there was neither the desire nor the right opportunity to stop. That changed around mid-November.
My boyfriend’s mum works in Austria and works shifts there, so she rents accommodation in a village near Linz. Since she had a free weekend, we took advantage of it — her place became our home for the night and a great chance to explore autumnal Linz. So, what is there to see?
Zaparkovali jsme asi kilometr a půl od centra (moje odhady jsou mizerné, počítejte s odchylkou) na kopci v domkové oblasti. Přes týden zde platí modré zóny a parkovací hodiny. O víkendu sice zóny platí také, ale místa s hodinami jsou volná pro parkování, čehož jsme využili.
We parked about a kilometre and a half from the city centre (my distance estimates are terrible, so allow for error) on a hill in a residential area. During the week, blue parking zones and parking meters apply here. On weekends the zones still apply, but the metered spots are free to use, which we took advantage of.
Pokud plánujete výlet do Rakouska v sobotu, počítejte s tím, že musíte vyrazit s předstihem. Muzea, hrady a další památky zavírají poměrně brzy a obchody i většina kaváren a restaurací mají otevřeno jen do šesti. My jsme přijeli až odpoledne, takže jsme toho nestihli tolik. Co jsme tedy viděli? Zámek, hradby a krásnou vyhlídku na Dunaj. Náměstí, hlavní třídu, kterou bych přirovnala k České v Brně, nespočet kostelů, jejichž interiéry milujeme, protože každý je jedinečný a má své kouzlo, a také hlavní dominantu města, katedrálu Panny Marie. Monumentální stavbu zvenčí i zevnitř, s kryptou, interaktivními tabulemi a kavárnou, která je tak trochu součástí samotné stavby. Vstup byl zdarma!
If you’re planning a Saturday trip to Austria, keep in mind that you need to set off early. Museums, castles, and similar attractions close fairly early, and shops as well as most cafés and restaurants are only open until six. We arrived in the afternoon, so we didn’t manage to see that much. So what did we see? The castle, the city walls, and a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Danube. The main square, the main shopping street (similar to Česká Street in Brno), countless churches — we love exploring their interiors, each one is unique and has its own charm — and also the city’s main landmark, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. A monumental building both outside and inside, with a crypt, interactive panels, and even a café that feels like part of the cathedral itself. Entrance was free!
Cestou zpět na parkoviště nás zaujal svatomartinský trh u kostela sv. Martina (bohužel foto nemám). Budova není na první pohled nijak výrazná, zato má velmi zajímavou historii. Dostali jsme tam dokonce soukromou přednášku od pořadatelů a ještě jsme si odnesli svatomartinský rohlíček. Místní byli prostě zlatí!

On the way back to the car park, the St. Martin’s market near the Church of St. Martin caught our attention. The building doesn’t look particularly striking at first glance, but it has a very interesting history. We even got a private talk from the organisers and left with a St. Martin’s pastry. The locals were just lovely!
